White Storks Take Flight
The white storks at Knepp are part of a project to establish a wild, breeding population in the UK after an absence of hundreds of years. Beloved in Europe, and associated with rebirth, we hope they will become a symbol of hope in the UK, encouraging the restoration of nature and connecting us with communities across the continent to safeguard habitat and feeding grounds along their migration routes.
Collaborating with my partner, Reuben Forster, we created this installation as a tribute to the White Storks at Knepp. White storks often appear in folklore as symbols of birth and fertility, so it felt like wonderful synchronisity when the project coincided with the discovery of my pregnancy. Working throughout my pregnancy, we installed the artwork with their newborn son Ray!
